One of the foundational use cases of Digital Manufacturing, is the serialization and traceability of parts throughout the factory, and then onto the customer. With Serialization and Traceability of a part, the data becomes a single source of record, a digital thread for the lifetime of the part. This digital thread of information can also be used for quality, process improvement, maintenance, digital twin, and many analytical purposes. Connecting data is the first step in making process improvements.
